How to Inspect a Used Clothing Load Before You Pay

Warehouse of wholesale used clothing bales that buyers can inspect in person before paying

The best way to buy used clothing with confidence is to see the actual goods first. Good suppliers welcome that, and the process takes less time than most buyers expect.

This guide covers the three ways to inspect a load, a short checklist for each, and what to expect at Toro Textile Recycling in Houston.

Three ways to inspect

  1. Photographs of the actual goods. The bales for your order, not stock photos.
  2. Video of the actual goods. Moving pictures show more than stills: bale labels, strapping, and a bale opened on camera.
  3. A visit to the warehouse. The most complete inspection, and one we welcome.

We do not send samples. Instead we invite you to inspect, because a few loose garments cannot show what a whole bale looks like.

What good photographs show

  • Several bales from the order, from more than one angle.
  • Bale labels and grade marks that match your quote.
  • Clean wrap and strapping, with the bale held firmly in shape.
  • The stack or pallet the goods will load from.
  • The container itself, empty and open, before loading starts.

What to look for on video

Ask for a short video of one bale being opened. In that clip, check:

  • The garment mix. Does it match the grade you ordered, such as everyday wear in a credential bale or defined categories in a sorted bale?
  • Condition and freshness. Garments should look and smell like clothing, with no damp patches.
  • Brands and styles. A good video lets you spot the premium pieces that will lift your margin.
  • How the bale compresses. A well-made bale holds its shape when the strapping is cut and opens in layers.

It is fine to ask for a second bale from a different part of the stack. A supplier proud of their grading will say yes.

Visiting the warehouse

A visit lets you walk the floor, open a bale yourself, and meet the people who will load your container. Plan to see:

  1. The bale stacks for your grade, so you can compare several.
  2. An opened bale, picked by you rather than by us.
  3. The loading area and the process for sealing a container.
  4. Our paperwork routine, from packing list to bill of lading.

We are at 6110 Griggs Rd, Houston, Texas 77023. Tell us your travel dates on WhatsApp and we will prepare the bales you want to see.

During loading and sealing

We photograph the loading and the sealed container, and send the seal number so you can match it to your shipping documents when the container arrives. Ask for these photographs on every order: they give you a record of what left Houston.

A simple inspection checklist

  • Photos of the actual bales for my order
  • A video of a bale being opened
  • Grade and quantity match my written quote
  • Loading photos and the sealed container
  • Seal number recorded and matched to the bill of lading
  • Commercial invoice and packing list received
